I so agree with everything you said. I haven't even broken into print yet, but when I do, I imagine I will be one of those mid-listers myself. I also write "literary" fiction, and while I do not blast people for reading and writing other things, I do lament that those of us who pay attention to the art and craft and soul of a book tend to go under read and under noticed. And, like you, I think that's true of writers from every tribe and culture, although I do wonder if people like Sandra Cisneros and Amy Tan (both of whom write books I love) would be so popular without the multicultural focus.
By the way, were your ears ringing tonight? I was telling a friend of mine about your work and quoting some things from your blog.
